http://ozoutback.com.au/ Arriving at Matsapha airport: some scenes from Swaziland as it was in 1973; the background singing is the "Bena Mpondo" choir singing "Sanibonani, nonkhe" (Hello, everybody) in "uMbholoho" style, that I recorded in a small hut in Mangwaneni, near Mbabane. The next scenes are taken in Mbabane, Swaziland's capital; the music in the background is made by a woman, cradling her baby, and playing the "sikhelekehle", a one-stringed musical bow with a gourd as a sound amplifier. It was recorded at her house in Mbabane. This is the beginning and the end of a longer film of celebrations in 1973; these are shown in separate movies. These scenes were recorded with an old 8 mm camera (without sound) in August and September 1973; sound was added later from tape recordings I had...

Zulu Dance performed during the Reed Dance Ceremony in Swaziland. A stunning and very colorful annual ceremony that shows an interesting side of the culture of the people of Swaziland; The Reed Dance Ceremony (Umhlanga) is where thousands of Swazi maidens gather reeds, wear traditional clothes, journey to Royal Kraal and perform to pay tribute to the Queen Mother. The only Swazi maidens who are allowed to join the ceremony are those who are childless and unwed. The ceremony usually happens late August or early September. This is the time when shifting of seasons happen and reeds are maturing, making it a perfect time for harvesting; it lasts around eight days. The days of the Umhlanga Reed Dance are chosen based on the cycle of the moon. It cannot be specifically chosen based on the calendar. Once the moon cycle has been assessed, the exact dates for the ceremony are then broadcasted through public radio, which is done by the maidens’ captain (indvuna yetintfombi). She is selected through Royal Appointment based on her expertise of the dance and her knowledge of the national royal protocol. The indvuna yetintfombi will be the one to guide the other maidens along with one princess as they begin on day one of the ceremony. The ceremony has three main goals. First, uphold a woman’s virginity. It’s a way to encourage Swazi Maidens to abstain from any intimate relations until they are in the rightful age for marriage. Second is to honor the Queen Mother. The gathered and cut reeds by the Swazi Maidens will be brought to the Royal Residence used as windbreakers. Lastly, this ceremony becomes an opportunity for these women to form stronger bonds and unity amongst them. Zulu Dance Africa.

About 80.000 virgins from all over the country attended this yearly event, the biggest in Swazi culture. It was founded to celebrate the beauty of Swazi women and girls. King Mswati III, and absolute monarch, was born in 1968 and he has 14 wives and many children. The king danced with his men in front of the 80.000 girls. Many of the girls hope to get noticed by the king and to be chosen as a future wife, a ticket from poverty and into a life of privilege and luxury. 5 Witches Caught On Tape & Spotted In Real Life! Description: Society’s understanding of witchcraft is strange and complex, with the fear and persecution of witches in early America giving way to acceptance, fascination and sex appeal in modern times. Yet the fairy-tale image of spell-casting hags on broomsticks is still deeply embedded in our culture – and not every witch is as friendly as that damsel from your neighborhood hippie store. Here are 5 Witches Caught On Camera & Spotted In Real Life that might spark your curiosity, shock your senses, or seriously creep you out. 5. The Mexican Flying Witches In 2007, conspicuously around Halloween, a Spanish news network released video of what were thought by local authorities to be genuine flying witches in a remote village in Mexico. The video footage shows mysterious, hunched figures flying in the air and oddly traversing a grassy hillside. Police officer Gerardo Garza claimed he saw a creature dressed in black, with giant claws inhabiting a nearby abandoned house near a graveyard. Soon Officer Garza discovered two humanoid creatures flying in circles around the cemetery stones. Another badly shaken officer received medical treatment after an encounter with another creature, who he described as a grotesque, black-eyed woman wearing a pointy hat. 4. Bridget Cleary Many may be familiar with the folk song named after Bridget Cleary, but not everyone knows the real life tragedy behind her legend. A seamstress living in Ireland in the late 19th century, Bridget fell ill sometime around her 26th birthday. Her superstitious and violent husband Michael became convinced that an evil fairy had imbued Bridget with the spirit of a shape-shifting witch. Michael invited his entire village to cast spells on his wife and attempt several creepy exorcisms, including chants, forcing herbs down her throat and even dousing her with urine. Days after St. Patrick’s Day, Bridget’s body was found badly charred and mutilated. 3. The Witch’s Hut of Amherst The Western Massachusetts Paranormal Video Society is dedicated to investigations of the supernatural throughout the Northeast. A spooky video submitted to the society just this year will give their investigators plenty to think about. In the clip, a man using a phone camera comes across what appears to be a diabolical witch’s hut, decorated with magic symbols such as bird bones, dead flowers, scary stick figures and a pentagram. 2. The Witch of Black Sabbath Fans of rock music continue to be fascinated by the album cover of the first Black Sabbath LP, simply titled Black Sabbath. In the heavily-doctored photo, taken on the river Thames in Oxfordshire England, a spooky and green-glowing woman in robed clothing appears to be rising out of the water in front of a gothic cottage. According to which story you believe, the figure is a real-life witch, vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in drag, or according to guitarist Tony Iommi, a Black Sabbath fan and model named Louise who later showed up at a concert and politely introduced herself. Though the band was soon accused of Satanism and witchcraft, bassist Geezer Butler has said that the group just wanted to make scary music after seeing a Boris Karloff movie…called Black Sabbath. 1. The Levitating Witch of Puerto Rico In 2015, the video team from Ghost Shots released one of the spookiest police videos ever shot, filmed from an officer’s squad car in Puerto Rico at about 4 AM. In the clip, a mysterious young girl is dressed in red and black - and stands directly on top of a blazing fire. After a few tense moments, the apparent demi-goddess spreads her arms dramatically – and appears to levitate on the flames. One Youtuber joked that maybe she just wanted a hug. But we’re betting the officer on duty avoided any physical contact during his truly terrifying close encounter. http://ozoutback.com.au Every year at the end of August girls march from the Royal Kraal of Lobamba to Mdutshane to cut reeds to repair the enclosures around the Queen mother's residence, after which the large Reed Dance follows. These scenes were recorded with an old 8 mm camera (without sound) in 1973; sound was added later from tape recordings I had made in previous years. For photos of this ceremony go to http://ozoutback.com.au/Swaziland/mhlanga_73/index.html. http://youtube.com/watch?v=WSAqasQ1Q2k

More information about the video content bellow: 1. Swaziland's King Mswati II (1840-1868) was considered the greatest fighting king, having fought competing Zulu tribes and some of his own brothers for the throne. "Swazi" is the anglicized version of his name. 2. The mountains in Swaziland's Malolotja Nature Reserve are among the oldest in the world at 3.6 billion years. The park includes Ngwenya Mountain. The Ngwenya Mine is the oldest known mine, at an age of 43000 years. 3. Once a year, Swaziland holds a fertility festival and reed dance called umhlanga. During the week-long festival, over 25,000 unmarried girls of the kingdom dress in elaborate costume and sing and dance before the Queen Mother, giving the King an opportunity to choose a new wife. King Mswati III of Swaziland has 15 wives and 23 children. 4. Swaziland is almost completely surrounded by the larger country of South Africa, only sharing its eastern border with Mozambique. 5. Swaziland has two capital cities. Mbabane is the administrative, officially recognized capital, while Lobamba is the royal and legislative capital. 6. Swaziland surpassed Botswana as having the highest HIV prevalence rate in the world, with an estimated 210,000 people out of its 1.2 million population, or 27.73% living with HIV or AIDS. 7. Contact with the British came early in Mswati’s reign, when he asked British authorities in South Africa for assistance against Zulu raids into Swaziland. It also was during Mswati’s reign that the first whites settled in the country. Following Mswati’s death, the Swazis reached agreements with British and South African authorities over a range of issues, including independence, claims on resources by Europeans, administrative authority, and security. South Africans administered the Swazi interests from 1894 to 1902. In 1902 the British assumed control.
